Megan's Blog 2 Whistleblowers/Enemy of the People

Wordle: Untitled

Larry Johnson, former exec. of Alcor, the famous Cryonics foundation, is a whistleblower for late baseball player, Ted Williams, who had his head frozen at Alcor. Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, Alcor is a facility that freezes the dead, including Ted Williams, at request for future purposes.

Larry Johnson, in 2003, and in fear for his life, blew the whistle on employees and technicians at Alcor. He stated that they had decapitated and abused the head of Ted Williams, and dumped toxic waste and blood into the parking lot's sewers. He also stated that William's head had been hit with a wrench to dislodge it from a can they had perched under the head to stop it from freezing to the bottom of the case. This action had caused parts of frozen cranium to fly around the room. Employees had even joked about mailing the family frozen remains until they paid their outstanding debt to Alcor.

Johnson wore a wire for his last three months at Alcor, and stole various documents as further evidence of Alcor's horrifying actions.

Johnson is similar to Dr. Stockmann of "An Enemy of the People," because he too, had tests and evidence to support their claims and told the public what was happening at these facilities. Despite their fear, they blew the whistle and shined the light on the wrongdoings of companies. Alcor/Kiil's tannery are both pollutants in certain ways and were both exposed by respected people who in good conscious, couldn't allow it to go on.

  1. Good whistleblower, this really fascinated me and I'm horrified at the fact that people could do that to someone that was dead. I think you gave a great background on story and really painted a picture in my head. Not only did you mention the stories relation to Dr. Stockmann but you also brought the company and Kiil’s part into play and I really liked that.
