Vincent Blog Post 2 Whistleblowers/Enemy of the People

Research a famous whistleblower not mentioned in this lesson.
Summarize briefly who this person was and why this person was a whistleblower.
Compare and contrast this person to the whistleblower from Enemy of the People, Dr. Stockmann.

- Joe Darby was a whistleblower in the Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse scandal. He was a U.S. Army Reservist who served as an M.P. (also known as Military Police) at the Abu Ghraib prison, in Abu Ghraib, Iraq. He is known as a whistleblower due to the evidence that he shared pertaining to the torture and prisoner abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison. After sending an anonymous letter to Tyler Pieron of the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, he provided both videos and photographs criminalizing several soldiers violating the Geneva Convention.
The parallels between Dr. Stockmann and Joe Darby are very close. Both Dr. Stockmann and Joe Darby did not receive great views from the public eye. They were both looked down upon and both of their families were shunned by friends and neighbors. Their properties were also vandalized. They both were trying to do the right thing, they were both against a government power gone corrupt.
On the exception, Dr. Stockmann was not placed under protective services, where as Joe Darby was. His life was threatened and he had to be removed from society.

  1. Mesmerizing, this was a great person to research. I think that there are many comparisons between Joe Darby and Dr. Stockmann. I do however see one big difference, Darby didn’t want to be placed as the person how was involved in the “telling” of the scandal. And it is sad that he had to be placed in the witness protection services, but you can see how passionate he was about getting the truth out no matter how it would affect him. Great wordle also.

  2. This was a great post. I love that you incorporated a video into your post. The words you used in your wordle were great but I would suggest maybe putting a few more words to complete it. Thats awful that he was under protective services. Great research!
