Analyze Dr. Stockmann's motivation in revealing the truth about the polluted springs. Selfish or unselfish motives? Explain.

I think that Dr. Stockmann's motives were unselfish because he wants the people of his town to be healthy and not poisoned. Yes Kirsten Springs would put the town on the map, but the safety of the people is more important to Dr. Stockmann than the Springs. I think that its a brave action to take to go against his own brother/ Mayor of the city and place the people first. Dr. Stockmann came up with this idea of Kirsten Springs, but he did not have any intention of it harming those who it would benefit. Therefore, he did the right thing by having that motivation to reveal the truth about the springs.

  1. I completely agree with what you wrote. I like how you included the part about going against his brother/mayor of the city. It really shows that his intentions were genuine and he wasn't scared of the consequences.

  3. I also agree that he was unselfish for holding in his information. I think it was a very smart thing to do instead of just ranting around town telling everyone and anyone which would just make matters worse. It was very smart of him to wait and get more test results to be able to see what exactly was going on be3fore word was spread. I’m sure it was hard for him to go against his brother and friends, but I think there is a bit of tension between himself and peter. Sibling rivalry? Maybe Peter is jealous that he wasn’t the one who found out this information sooner considering he is the mayor and has to make all the major decisions for the town anyway.
