something that could only come from - a nightmare.

MUSIC: OUT

ANNOUNCER: Listen now as 5 MINUTES OF HORROR brings you Catherine's terrifying story, "They Came By Night"!

MUSIC: FOR AN INTRO

SOUND: CLINK OF COFFEE CUPS, RUSTLE OF NEWSPAPERS...

NARRATOR: It is nearly midnight on this stormy Saturday night as the old grandfather clock in the foyer chimes loudly.

SOUND: GRANDFATHER CLOCK

NARRATOR: John and Helen Smith are both unwinding from an evening of wining and dining their closest friends. They have just recently moved into this old Victorian home that was inherited by John's late grandmother against Helen's wishes. The house scares her. The dinner that night was a thank you gift to their friends for all of the help. John is quietly reading the newspaper at the kitchen table, while his wife Helen washes the dishes.

SOUND: CRACK OF LIGHTENING AND THUNDER RIGHT OUTSIDE THE KITCHEN WINDOW

NARRATOR: The lights go out.

HELEN: Oh my! John, I can't see a thing! This house is even worse at night!

JOHN: Don't worry honey. I'll get some candles.

SOUND: JOHN RUSTLES THROUGH A DRAWER.

JOHN: Here they are.

NARRATOR: Before John can light the candles, a crash is heard directly above them.

HELEN: Some one's in our bedroom! Oh John! Why did we move all the way out here in the middle of the woods?!

NARRATOR: John walks towards the foyer, Helen trailing closely behind, and opens the coat closet.

SOUND: CRASHING BALLS, BATS, AND STICKS CLATTERING TO THE GROUND

NARRATOR: Helen jumps, now shaking crazily. John picks up the baseball bat and proceeds towards the stairs. Helen is hesitant at first, but not wanting to be alone, soon follows.

JOHN: Stay close to me.. It'll be okay.

SOUND: CREAKING STAIRS

NARRATOR: As they reach the top of the old staircase, they stop at the bedroom door.

SOUND: HEAVY BREATHING

MUSIC: PSYCHO THEME

NARRATOR: John slowly reaches for the doorknob, but before he can reach it, the door flies open!

SOUND: SCREAMS

MUSIC: OUT

-SILENCE-

  1. Catherine,
Great post I loved the part about the grandfather clock. Maybe you could have mentioned more about the thank you dinner it kind of jumped from one thing to the next, or possible you could have just not mentioned that at all. Otherwise I thought your ideas were great I could really visualize what you were describing!

  2. Awesome post. I could visualize your story so well. My only suggestion would be to maybe add more music. The sound effects were great and the narration made it very clear. This left me wanting to hear more!
