IMPORTANT CONCEPTS:
1. How to analyze characters with 10 steps and you don’t have to use all of them
2. Some writers can only write about what they know, so if they are strictly in the South then that is all they can write about with it being accurate.
3. Different types of poems and how they can rhyme or not rhyme.
ACTIVITIES:
1. Wordle – I enjoyed this activity because everyone can come up with their own words and own layout on how to describe a person, a poem, or even a video.
2. Journal Entries – I like this activity for the most part… I am a visual person so when the poem was read out loud or when I watched the video I wanted to write my response but I also wanted to look back at it while I wrote. So that’s the only hard thing for me, but other than that I love writing what I think right away.
3. I really enjoyed the arts and crafts day where we took an article from the newspaper and made our own poem and then put it on construction paper. It really let everyone put a creative spin on his or her work.
* I really enjoy this class and learning about the different forms of literature. It’s interesting to see how theme and characterization can be analyzed and even brought into most poetry. It’s also nice to have discussion forums and this new blog so you can interact with your classmates more and it’s not just an assignment.

I like your Wordle, Lisa. It encapsulizes the two units from the content side to the feeling side of things. I am glad you enjoyed our arts and crafts day. It's amazing that you can create poetry out of an article in the newspaper.
ReplyDeleteTheme and characterization can be brought into our drama unit, so keep all those concepts cemented into your brain. Please be the subject matter expert for the class and check into the Anything Else Cafe if people are having a problem with this blog post. Thanks!! :) SBS
I'm glad you mentioned the discussion forum as a way to establish a class community of learners. I always feel it allow people who like to reflect on things an opportunity to get their two cents in. I also have been amazed at the sharing that goes on in discussion forums. The same thing, as you know, can happen here in this blog. Thanks, Lisa, for your insightful comments and reflection of three things you learned, you did, and how you felt about what you learned and what you did.
ReplyDeleteWow great post Lisa. I also really like how I was introduced to wordle as well. i had never heard of this program and I think its really interesting to be able to put different words together but it somehow all makes sense when it's put together. The arts and craft we a greatactivity too. I think they're a lot better than having to write average papers. Overall great job!
